Tree planting workshop

We were lucky to have a visitor come into our school to carry out a Tree planting workshop.  The workshop focused on our environment and how it changes, how it grows and what happens when people stop caring for the environment.  We had the chance to discuss how trees grow, what they need to grow and survive.  We even planted an acorn in the hope we can grow our own tree in a little pot.   We then worked in groups to identify important features of what supports the healthy growth of trees.  We would like to share some pictures with you.  We will be meeting Zoe from the workshop again in a couple of weeks as we will be planting our own trees in the park.

Maths fun outdoors!!

The weather has been so great that last week we decided to have an outdoor lesson in Maths.  We have been learning about Roman numerals and decided if we could test our skills by playing a game of snap with Y4F...
Y4E had numbers written in Roman numerals and Y4F had numbers written in standard numbers.  Both classes had to find the number that matched to the one that they had been given.  Then we extended it further by joining chn into groups of 4/6.  The children then had to create their numbers with their bodies but using Roman Numerals.  It was very tricky but a great success.  Here are some pictures to show how it went.

Fractions, fractions everywhere!

In maths lessons we have been exploring fractions.  We can now find equivalent fractions, find fractions of amounts, add and subtract fractions as well as order them.

Plants

Before Easter we experimented with how water and nutrients travel in plants.  We also tried growing our own plants.  Here we are planting them!
